Course Overview & Tour

Laurance Rockefeller, an avid golfer and resort property pioneer, saw a diamond in the rough when he purchased the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club in 1967. In 1971, Rockefeller contracted Robert Trent Jones Jr. to develop a major remodeling plan for the original Bob Baldock designed course. In 2004, Jones was contracted once again for a second redesign of the course.

This has always been one of my favorite places and now that the Club has asked me to return and lead this project, it is as much an honor today as it was when Mr. Rockefeller first hired me in 1973.”

Under the direction of Robert Trent Jones Jr., our course underwent a $15 million renovation in 2007. We invite you to test your golfing skills on this re-invented legend!

Hole #1 - Cottonwood

Par 4Men’s Handicap: 17Women’s Handicap: 15

Hole Description
This short par 4 is a slight dog leg left and your best chance at a great approach shot comes from a tee shot aimed to the right side of the fairway. Don't overshoot the green or you'll end up in the hazard!

Hole Description
Hole #2 is a long and straight par 5. A good drive down the middle will set up your second shot nicely. Because of the carry, laying up is recommended for your second shot. A short approach should increase your chances for a good score here.

Hole Description
This long par 3 requires the player to carry the water hazard. For a safe play, aim just to the right of the green to avoid that water!

Hole Description
One of the most challenging holes at JHGTC, this par 4 has water coming across the fairway that may cause most players to club down on the tee box. The best second shot comes from a well placed drive to the right side of the fairway just in front of the water hazard. An elevated green flanked by bunkers makes landing an approach in the right spot that much more difficult!

Hole Description
Take advantage of this dogleg left by staying away from the bunkers on the left on your tee shot. An inviting green makes a close approach much more likely!

This long par 3 looks much easier than it plays as the false front on the green can be deceiving!

Hole Description
Threading the needle with a great tee shot can payoff big on this hole. Just avoid those fairway bunkers!

Hole Description
This long dog leg right is the hardest hole on the course. A good tee shot followed by an approach just shy of the water can help make this hole a little easier.

Hole #9 - Wind River

Hole Description
Hole #9 is the first of three riverside holes where Moose, elk, deer, and osprey are quite common. Avoid the fairway bunkers on the right and you should be able to fly the bunkers for a great approach. Don't forget to call in your food or drink order to the Eagles Rest available via the tee box phone.

Hole Description
A good tee shot will start tight to the trees on the left hand side of this fairway. Stay away from the right hand side hazards to give yourself the best approach. A very receptive green should help your score on this hole.

Hole #11 - Gros Ventre

Hole Description
#11 is a Jackson Hole version of the infamous #18 at Pebble Beach. Instead of the Ocean, the Gros Ventre river follows this hole in its entirety on the left hand side. Taking a shortcut typically doesn't pay on this hole! Aim your drive just to the right of the closest trees and you may have a chance to go for the green on your second shot, which should be aimed directly over the bunker in front of the green.

Hole #12 - Rendezvous

Hole Description
It is possible for some players to drive the green on this short Par 4. For most of us, aiming your drive between the tree on your left and bunkers on the right will set you up nicely for your short second shot.

Hole #13 - Teton Trace

Hole Description
This signature hole of JH Golf & Tennis Club provides a dramatic backdrop of the Tetons and is a stunning hole to look at, especially in late September when the leaves are changing. The only concern is using enough club to carry the water.

Hole Description
A good tee shot between the fairway bunkers will help setup your second shot. Beware, that second shot will be longer than you think! Try to stay out of the deep bunker to the right of the green.

Hole #16 - Grand View

Hole Description
This is the most difficult par 3 at JHGTC. For the safe shot, try to land your shot on the right hand side of the green. More aggressive players can go straight for the pin but be sure you have enough club to carry the bunkers!

Hole Description
This dog leg left provides a great opportunity to take a shortcut off the tee box by hitting your drive directly over the fairway bunker on the left. Even without the shortcut the elevated green provides a good landing platform for your second shot.

Hole #18 - Blacktail Butte

Par 5Men’s Handicap: 12Women’s Handicap: 6

Hole Description
The 18th at JHGTC is a dog leg right par 5. A good drive aimed to the right of the left hand side fairway bunker will set up your second shot nicely. Because of the small window into the green, laying up is recommended for your second shot. A short approach should increase your chances for a good score here. Then finish your round by stopping in the North Grille for some "après golf"!
